After 10 years of ownership which has seen the 7 used for blatting, touring, trackdays and all manner of club activities, I decided it was time to try a new challenge and that this was the year to try my hand at sprinting and hillclimbing. So, after much encouragement primarily from Mike and Tam Calvert , I set about getting my licence and preparing the car. Many thanks also to Mark Durrant who spent time exchanging emails and 'scrutineering' my car before the 1st event. I'm aiming at competing in around 7 or 8 events in my first season. As my 7 is an 1800cc 140bhp x/flow running on List 1B tyres that means I'll be in Class 3.

End of season review

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed myself this year and was made to feel very welcome not only by my fellow competitors in Class 3 but also by everyone else. Everybody is full of advice for the novices and there is always someone you can approach for hints and tips at each event. Seasoned campaigners are more than happy to 'walk' you round each course and provide valuable advice.

All of the venues were new to me so there had to be a fast learning curve at each event. At times I felt I was being too cautious, but at each event I did successfully manage to reduce my times significantly. I will be looking to improve even more next year!

Final Results

As this was my first year I was eligible for the Novices Championship. In order to qualify you must compete in at least 5 events, any more than that and it is only your 5 best scores that count. To qualify for the Overall Championship and a placing in your own Class, 7 events must be completed. Again, any more then the best 7 scores count.

So my final positions were:

Novice Championship - 7th out of 12 scoring 456.49 points (winning score 498.75)

    Class 3 Championship - 12th out of 24 scoring 636.56 points (wining score 700.00)

    Overall Championship - 41st out of 89

Individual rounds including photos and times can be seen below. The Club also had rounds at Llandow, Llys y Fran, Pembrey, Shelsley Walsh, Loton Park and Aintree which I did not compete in.

Goodwood - 25 April       Curborough - 17 May       MIRA - 23 May       Harewood - 2 August
